With over 50 years of experience in violin making and restoration, Rodger Stearns has established himself as one of the region’s most dedicated and skilled luthiers. His career is defined by a lifelong pursuit of excellence and a deep-seated respect for the heritage of stringed instruments.

A Legacy of Mastery & Education

Rodger’s journey into the heart of fine instrument restoration led him to the prestigious Oberlin Violin Restoration Workshop in 1988. There, he honed his craft under the tutelage of legendary masters, including:

  • Vahakn Nigogosian
  • Hans Nebel & Hans Weisshaar
  • Luiz Bellini
  • Horacio Piñeiro

His dedication to the craft was so profound that he returned for six consecutive summers, participating in the workshop’s intensive four-week sessions. Even today, Rodger remains a regular participant at Oberlin, staying at the forefront of evolving techniques in the world of fine instrument restoration.

A Life of Service and Scholarship

Beyond the workbench, Rodger’s life is anchored by a commitment to education and faith. This unique blend of artistry and leadership provides him with a perspective characterized by patience, precision, and integrity.

  • Academic Excellence: He holds a Master’s Degree in Christian Ministries from Malone University.
  • Leadership: He currently serves as the Chairman of the Ministerial Department at Allegheny Wesleyan College.
