Robert Stearns

A Legacy of Precision and Craft

As CEO and President of Stearns Violins, Robert Stearns views every instrument as a bridge between history and performance. His journey began in 1999, joining forces with his father, Rodger Stearns, following a formative two-year tenure at the prestigious Seman Violins in Chicago.

A dedicated Restoration Expert and Setup Specialist, Robert has spent years refining his craft alongside the world’s most elite makers and restorers. Through recurring summer sessions at the renowned Oberlin Restoration Workshop, he has mastered the delicate balance of preserving an instrument’s integrity while optimizing its voice for the modern player.

Robert’s approach is informed by a unique academic background; he holds a Master’s Degree in Ancient Languages and Biblical Archaeology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. This scholarly foundation brings a rare level of meticulousness and historical reverence to the workbench, ensuring that every violin and viola is treated with the precision it deserves.
